GIF is a popular name when we talk about pictures in motion. It is a lossless format that supports static as well as animated images. GIFs are nowadays very popular on Social Media such as Facebook as they are very engaging when we talk about small video content and have very small file size compared to a video file.
Here, we list few steps through which you can easily create animated GIFs using Adobe Photoshop.
Move all the images you want to use for GIF in a separate folder. Browse them to upload into Photoshop, click on File > Scripts > Load Files Into Stack.
Then, click Browse and choose the image files that you would like to use in your GIF, then click OK.
When you select all images, Photoshop will automatically create a separate layer for each image that you have selected.
To do this, go to the top navigation, then click Window > Timeline. The Timeline lets you turn various layers on and off for different periods of time, by transforming your static image into a GIF.
Once you do this, the Timeline window appears at the bottom of your screen. This is how it looks like:
It won’t happen automatically, for this, choose it from the dropdown menu but make sure to actually click it or the frame animation options will not show up.
Now, your timeline should look something like this.
For doing this, select all the layers by from top navigation menu and then choose Select > All Layers.
Now, click the menu icon present on the right side of the Timeline screen.
Now use the dropdown menu to choose “Create new layer for each new frame”
This will generate each layer as a frame of your GIF
This can be done by clicking the time options below each frame and choosing how long you want it it to appear. Here, we prefer to chose 0.5 seconds per frame.
As per the default default settings, it will say once, but it can be modified and set as you want it to loop. You can also set it to keep looping always. You can set manually by clicking on “custom”
Now you can simply click on the play button to preview the new GIF that you have created.
GIF is in vogue in Web and Graphic Design since decades. However, in modern design, they are aggressively being employed on website as well as social media applications. So, it becomes quite indispensable to employ them.
