Saurabh Tiwary | 21st December 2016

In the past few years, there has been a consistent shift in the mobile app user interface design standards which took a new way towards simplification and minimization of the interfaces. The focus of modern design is to come up with an intuitive and engaging interface to allow users feel home with every new design. Here, I list some of the trendy design approaches that will attract mobile design lovers in the year 2017.

Implementation of cutting-edge technologies shapes the growth of any field. The mobile app UI/UX design is not an exception. Talking particularly about the app design trends, efforts are always being put into to bring in the best in class technologies to get most out of any design. The appearance of the app has always been the need and the year 2017 will see some really cool design implementations.

Mobile App Design Trends 2017

Material Design Implementations in Mobile App Design

Since the advent of Google’s Material Design in 2014, it has been very popular among the designers and the app users. The subtle design approach followed in Material Design was to make it easy and simple for the users to engage with the mobile platforms.

Design experts believe that more or less Material Design is inspired by Flat Design principles. I do not find any promising reason to support this argument, but it won’t be wrong to conclude that the year 2016 has revolved around Material Design applications and this really cool trend is all set to keep rocking in the upcoming years as well.

Use of Functional Animation

Subtle use of functional animation in the mobile app design has been an intuitive idea. These let users dive in the process of interaction with the app as well as develop their experience. The idea behind the functional UI is not only about the animation.

This approach is associated to serve logical and entertaining purposes of the design. The main advantage of functional animation trend is that it does not limit designers to compromise with their creativity. Functional animations are very useful when you want to make your UX dynamic, interactive and significant.

The idea the functional animation is to make users understand the application and-and its design and interpret it easily. This is a great design tool that sees wide applications in upcoming years as well.

Card Layouts and Swiping

The basic idea behind using card layout design is to group all crucial information in the box that is presented separately and provide an access to some more information with only one tap.

Card layouts help boost your UX making it more interactive and dynamic. It came into the existence in the year 2014 and went popular in no time. It still forms the UX standards and tendencies. The prime objective of Card Layouts is to prioritize on functionality over appearance.

The swiping feature has been in the vogue for a while and users are much more attracted towards this and swiping has replaced gesture options.

Diverse Application of Colors

Although white backgrounds, negative spaces, and subtle colors have been a modern trend, the year 2017 might see several vibrant color application in addition to darker backgrounds. Material design provides some more room for introducing both light and dark backgrounds.

The idea of going on the white background in the majority of the app design does not seem to continue in the year 2017. Stats reveal that about 80% of the mobile apps use a white background in their UI. This trend is not going to last longer and designers should be more flexible considering such key factors as the time of the day.
