When we talk about designing buttons for our website, the first thing that comes to our mind is the Call To Action(CTA). Although CTA buttons play a major role in website design, however, enhancing the button design of a page is equally important to other in order to maintain the consistency among various elements.
1) Button Design Should Be Different From Text Elements
While designing any button for forms or CTA application, the foremost thing to consider is the ability of a designer to bring a distinction between the textual elements and the graphically designed buttons. The buttons must look like a functional element, a bit different from the form fields or similar other components. This is very crucial as the visitors should be able to distinguish between an informative text and an actionable icon such as button.
2) Make Your Buttons Easily Accessible
Buttons play a great role in the user interaction and hence they must be given a priority on your web page. A good way to do this is to employ buttons on your homepage that are actually essential. Most of the users on your website won’t be willing to access each and every page of your website, so, place all the crucial buttons on the pages that are more likely to be visited. Often, buttons can be used to help the users navigate through the website.
3) Prioritize Buttons Through Your Design
This is another important aspect of button design as it assists the user to understand which button is more important as compared to the other. Some of the great inspirations you can find on the popular e-commerce websites where you a variety of buttons are present. However, if you carefully look at their design, the design pattern or the size of the buttons might look similar but they possesses different impact. One can easily figure out that a particular button will have more effective action as compared to the other one. It’s all about the design approach that actually works and sets a distinction between different design elements.
4) Avoid Highlighting Destructive Buttons
Sometimes, you need to act smarter while designing some buttons. One of such smart moves is making it a bit difficult for the user to locate the destructive buttons such as “Not Interested”, “Cancel Order” etc. Doing this will have some positive impact on the conversion rate. If a user is not interested in your product, he will anyhow find a way to get rid of it. However, giving priority to the destructive elements in the same as other buttons may cause you lose your customers.
