In the modern age of designing, there are vast possibilities of incorporating numerous functionalities to the website. Working out on each individual feature can bring dramatic enhancement to the user experience. One of the ways of doing so is to work out on personalization of the website.

Personalized Website

What Makes A Website Personal?

Fetching users to your website is not always enough. The major challenge for a designer comes when they have to design a website in such a way that it lets user spend more and more time on the website and ensure their frequent visit to the website. To achieve this, your design must reflect engagement options and users must get attracted towards it, thus being able to access and manage their personal content without any hesitation. That’s what we call personalization in terms of website designing.

Although there are a number of  ways of personalization that may differ depending on the goals of the website, but considering few general conditions, I list few tips for personalizing your website that can actually change the way a user visits your website.

1. Let User Create Their Own Profile:- Allowing users to create their own profile allows them to be a part of your website. It helps the user in a number of ways  such as providing them with customization and personalization options. This also benefits owner of the website as they may be able to collect a vast pool of data that can help improve website experience and performance. Also, it builds certain level of trust in the mind of users.

2. Ensure Security Of Their Personal Information:- In order to make personalization  effective, it is important to ensure that all the user information is well-protected. Although personal experiences are convenient and delightful, if a user does not trust your website, you fail to achieve the personalization design of your website.

3. Enable Geo-location:- Asking the user to share their location by providing the list of places to choose from and GPS support makes user feel that the website is exclusively designed  for them. From owner’s point of view, it is useful in the way that they can collect the geographic location and make analysis accordingly for business expansion.

4. Make Changes Periodically:- Updating your website frequently depending on the latest trend and news is what plays a crucial role in winning the trust of the audience. This approach is particularly crucial when it comes to the retail sales and promotions. Other approaches in this category may include using imagery and words that further emphasize on specific season of the year and display content accordingly. For an example, a site may offer a special promotion to a user based on their past activity on the website.

5. Make It About “Me”:- A well-personalized website relies on a recommendation model to keep its users interested. When you make the website considering the user’s interest, the website establishes user loyalty and trust. The user believes that this website already knows me and my interests.

The major goal of personalization is to please user with your design and let them feel that your website is not among one of the websites that they come across in their day to day life. Personalization can be considered as a way ahead element of UI/UX design.
