Flat design is all about designing without three-dimensional effects and shiny visual elements. In past few years, this design form has evolved a lot being a major part of mobile app UI design services. And now we are introduced with Flat Design 2.0.
Flat design works quite well in design interfaces iOS and Android apps. It helps designers by helping them achieve minimalism, clarity, and cleanness. It has gone beyond the limitations of previous design style such as skeuomorphism that employs shiny buttons and illustrations through real-life 3D objects.
The Flat design basically aims to design smooth and polished websites and sees vast applications in mobile app designs. It primarily focuses on highlighting the content and offers more interactive options. Furthermore, it provides a faster and more functional user experience. It’s comparatively easy to use its simple, consists of box-like elements supported by grid-based layouts that help achieve the responsive design.
The all new Flat 2.0 aims to provide little detail and still follows the flat techniques. In previous flat applications; shadows, gradients, and layering were the key attributes. The new design technique works in combination with all the other elements of flat design.
The term Flat Design 2.0 was introduced in the year 2014. It primarily drove the mobile UI design approaches to get rid of Skeuomorphism. Some of the major changes that we see in the new version of flat designs are:
The major change to notice in the Flat 2.0 is that it doesn’t specifically focus on the mobile UI element or icon. Priority is given to Photos and videos while Flat 2.0 interfaces. However, there is a mix reaction from the design experts on this. Some of them feel that it is the fading out of primary flat aesthetics.
The Flat 2.0 has been a matter of talk seeing the popularity of the Material Design interface by Google. The look seem to be flattened, but features seems to be inspired by Material Design principles with the evolution of elements. Layering acts as a key visual component as well as the use of shadows.
