How Useful is Google Web Designer Tool?

Google Web Designer is a tool for creating HTML ads. It was launched back in 2013 and is free available for Windows, Mac, and Linux users. The main objective of this tool was to enable designers to create Ad. Campaigns easily. Google claims it to be a professional-grade HTML5 authoring tool. However, it still struggles to be a popular choice among flash content creators.

Although Google Web Designer Tool has been here for more that 3 years now, it still exists in the beta version. Moreover, users cannot upload ads built in Flash. As per the recent announcement on their support page, starting from January 2017, AdWords will stop running display ads in the Flash format.

There are 2 ways to switch to HTML5 ads:

  • Create another HTML5 ad with Google tools including Google Web Designer
  • Upload HTML5 ads

When to use Google web Designer tool?

The design tool now only allows designers to create HTML ads. Some of the best scenarios where this tool can be advantageous are:

You can visualize the showcase on the site of the project itself.

It’s easy to create expandable ads, slide-ins, fade outs, and other layered effects as the program let you create a layer of images and text over each other.

Although Google Web Designer is fairly flexible, the code for the ad has to be edited to get ads correctly exported so that they can be uploaded. However, having an HTML5 content instead of image files is often less time-consuming and definitely a great way to go.

Google web designer needs to work out on all of the bugs. It might prove to be a great tool for users with basic HTML and CSS knowledge and need to create animated ads. However, it might not prove handy for the beginner users as there are certain features that need careful attention.

Apart from this, we have also come across several issues such as ads show up whited out (even in the presence of graphics) after using it for several different files in the same session. Looks like Google Designer Tool has not been the priority for Google as even after three years of its release, it still exists in the beta version. However fading out of flash from the design tool might be the indication that is might soon get a stable version. So let’s wait and hope that Google fixes all its bugs and provide newer experience to the ad. creators.
