The Chaos of Pixel-Perfect UI in Adobe Photoshop

Saurabh Tiwary | 14th June 2018

Adobe Photoshop is a highly using raster graphics editor created by Adobe Systems for Windows and MacOS. Today, it is a standard tool in the graphics editing industry. Designing with an objective of achieving 100% perfection in Photoshop and then replicating them in CSS might prove very inept. Yet, it has a lot of significance in the design process. Even after a lot of newly built designing tools, Photoshop is still the best choice for designers. In one of my previous blog, we have told about best and free photoshop brushes majorly used by designers. This blog is all about new and highly used features of Pixel-perfect UI in Adobe Photoshop.

Use of Pixel-perfect UI in Adobe Photoshop in static and dynamic design:

Perhaps this approach does not seem to be very efficient, but more so now than ever, Adobe Photoshop is capable of visualizing how a web page would actually look when visited by the user.

Although Photoshop came as a solution to how your web page would look like, there are a number of issues such as font rendering that creates a buzz with retina devices. The font on an iPhone4 will vary entirely from the font in a Photoshop composition which displays 72dpi.

However, that’s not a prime concern with responsive layouts. In that case, we may say that Photoshop is a wrong tool go with. The best way to appropriately develop a responsive layout is by working in the same context. The best way to start this is with the desktop browser A desktop browser is a great place to start but ideally, designs must be tested on a number of devices as a view from a desktop is far different from mobile.

New features of Photoshop:

Photoshop should not be disposed of, anyway it makes a great digital sketchbook for design ideas, especially during browser-based development. Working with images components is not possible within the browser and this can be done rapidly using Photoshop. It also adds a lot of value for setting the visual architecture of the design project through components viz. texture, color, and pattern etc. but when it comes to typographic jobs one should not rely only on the Photoshop tool.

Style Tiles are new approaches from the web community towards creating mockups for responsive layouts and make use of Photoshop as a mood boarding tool for defining styles. These are not web page layouts.

This process might save ample amount of time and so many things one can achieve quickly with CSS than in Photoshop. Eventually, it is a tool to use for the purpose of creating and editing pictures and a website’s picture is no substitute for a functional prototype.

Conclusion:

In short, Photoshop will remain essential for the web designers for years to come. However, the way in which we use it will definitely change. Relying on the details, a fixed design is now a thing of past. High-end features of pixel-perfect UI in Adobe Photoshop are the reason which lets a designer choose this tool over others.
