Unambiguous Design

As a designer it is considerably easy to evaluate your own designing work. But in many cases, web designers fail to convey the same information to the end user. And for that reason, it is necessary to implement some practices in order to keep your design unambiguous. People often end up getting away from websites that are unclear with information they provide. However, just by developing some healthy approaches, one can come up with a clear-cut and unified design.

What Is An Ambiguous Design?

Well, there can be a number of answers to this questions as we relate it to the different elements of design. Think of the following situations that you might have encountered while browsing a website.

  • You visit a website of a software development company to look for the services offered by them. But instead of highlighting on what services they specialize in, they exaggerate about the clients they have worked for.
  • You are looking for a specific information on a website and find it difficult to navigate through the categories and you are confused that in which category does it lie?

This is what we actually call an ambiguous design. Some of us might fail to figure out the causes of ambiguity. But, in most of the cases, this term relates to the web-accessibility as unambiguous design focuses on accessibility of the information at the same time taking into the account its clarity.

Challenges For The Websites

  • Excess Of Content
  • Different Mindsets Of Visitors
  • Have A Good Impression On User’s Mind

Keeping Away From  Ambiguity

  • How To Communicate?:-  In most cases, the approaches followed are similar for most of the websites like having categories and subcategories. Apart from information hierarchy, another way to communicate is through an appropriate combination of text, images, audio and videos. This approach clearly explains what it is all about.
  • What To Communicate?:- The primary approach for better communication involves representing the purpose of the design like services offered, benefits to the user etc.

Tips For Information Clarity:-

  1. Place information based on your priority and the way you want user to perceive it but at the same time taking into the account the purpose of it.
  2. Do not brag about the organization, instead focus on what makes you distinct and how can you help users.
  3. Designers often complicate minute things to a confusing term while trying to achieve innovation in their design, it’s good to be innovative but at the same time try to keep it simple and intuitive.
  4. Overall design should anyhow explain what it actually means.
  5. Use Typography to exaggerate the information in such a way that you want every user to go through.

So, one can follow these approaches to make their website more informative, simple yet effective.
